Previous Antenna COST Actions?
COST IC0603 is the eighth European COST Action on antennas. Initiated by Prof. Folke Bolinder from Chalmers University of Technology, these Actions have created a unique forum for technical exchange in the field of Antennas in Europe.
The first "project" COST 25/1 on "Aerial networks with phase control" 1973-1977 with five countries (DE, FI, FR, NL & SE) was after a preparatory phase followed by:
- COST 204 "Phased array antennae and their applications" 1980-1984 with nine signatories (BE, DE, ESA, FI, FR, IT, NL, SE & UK) and one observer (CH),
- COST 213 "Antennas in the 1990's - Electronically steered antennas for future satellite & terrestrial communications" 1984-1988 with 13 signatories (BE, CH, DE, DK, ES, ESA, FI, FR, IT, NL, SE & UK) and one observer (GR),
- COST 223 "Antennas in the 1990s - Active array antennas for future satellite & terrestrial communications" 1988-1992 with 16 signatories (BE, CH, DE, DK, ES, ESA, FI, FR, GR, HR, IT, NL, PT, SE, TR & UK) and one observer (NO),
- COST 245 "Active phased arrays and array fed antennas" 1993-1997 with 18 signatories (BE, CH, DE, DK, ES, ESA, FI, FR, GR, HR, IT, NL, NO, PL, PT, SE, TR & UK) and two observers (BG & RU), and
- COST 260 "Smart antennas: Computer-aided design & technology" 1997-2001 with 19 signatories (AT, BE, CH, DE, DK, ES, ESA, FI, FR, GR, HR, IT, NL, NO, PL, PT, SE, TR & UK) and 2 observers (RU & UA). The Action was chaired by Dr. Antoine Roederer
- COST 284 "Innovative Antennas for Emerging Terrestrial & Space-Based Applications" 2002-2006 with 20 European countries (Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Serbia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and U.K.) and ESA as members. In addition, organisations in the Czech Republic, Poland and Romania, as well as organisations in Canada, Mexico and Russia, took part as observers. The Action was chaired by Prof. Juan Mosig.
COST 284 played a big role in setting up the FP6
Antenna Network of Excellence ACE, which in turn together with COST 284 created the
European Conferences on Antennas and Propagation (EuCAP),
the European School of Antennas (ESoA), and
the European Association of Antennas and Propagation (EurAAP).
